Best ways to keep cool in Stoke Newington

As temperatures soar to record-breaking levels, we’ve been seeking out the best spots in Stokey to keep cool.

Whether you’re looking for pubs and restaurants in Stoke Newington with air conditioning, fabulous ice cream shops or places to take a dip, we’ve got you covered.

Even Stoke Newington Bookshop has air-con, so if it all gets too much you can cool off while you browse for a book. Many local businesses, such as Search & Rescue put bowls of water out for the dogs.

Pubs & Restaurants with Air Conditioning in Stoke Newington

The Three Crowns is a fabulous spot to enjoy a pint (and check out their new menu) while keeping cool under the air-con. The ceilings are super-high too.

La Rosetta Italian restaurant is another brilliant spot – as well as having air-con, they have a stunning little shaded garden. Primavera 16 is fully air conditioned. Watch the Koi Carp at Yum-Yum Thai on the High Street, enjoy an ice-cold cocktail and keep cool under the air-con. The Good Egg and The Blue Legume on Church St offer air conditioning too.

Shady gardens

The Green Room Café on Stoke Newington Church Street has a lovely leafy garden, with plenty of shade.

The Auld Shillelagh has a garden with a roof that can open and close on demand – so there are always shaded areas when needed! Inside, the front windows open wide so there’s usually a lovely breeze throughout.

Clissold Park Tavern has a big garden so catches any breeze and they have sun umbrellas too.

There are outside tables with shade at The Red Lion and outside Clissold House Café.

There are plenty of trees around the beer garden at the White Hart and though it undoubtedly still a sun-trap there are plenty of sun umbrellas for those seeking shade.

Take a dip

The West Reservoir is a brilliant outdoor swimming spot for confident swimmers. Get in their early though; it gets pretty booked up.

Clissold Park’s long-awaited splash pad is expected to open by the end of July, offering brightly coloured water fountains and sprays. In nearby Butterfield Green there’s a playable stream and a water pump.

I scream – you scream, we all scream for ice-cream!

Oddono’s in Church St make their own gelato from scratch, Romeo & Giulietta Artisan Gelateria on Albion Road have some exciting flavours – from ricotta and figs to chocolate sorbet.

Peggy loves Ice cream operates out of a serving hatch next to the Rose and Crown – serving wonderful milkshakes and Jersey dairy ice cream as well as plant-based ice-cream.

Water Refill Stations

If you’re out and about and you need a water top-up, head to the tap on the back of Clissold House (Clissold Park), to Clissold Leisure Centre. Many cafes are also happy to offer a free water refill.
