Ditch the generic this Mother’s Day!
Stoke Newington’s independent stores have got you covered, from stunning clothes and homeware to jewellery and fragrance.
We’ve been researching the best gifts in N16 to bring you inspiration for Mother’s Day (March 15th).
Lei Yang, of the Stoke Newington Business Association, said: “In choosing to shop locally or eat out locally this Mother’s Day, you’re making a conscious decision to help preserve Stokey’s charm and to safeguard the future of its independent stores.
“They’ve so much to offer – check them out for stand-out gifts to make the mums in your life feel treasured!”
Events

Abney Park Café is offering a Bouquet Bar and Brunch on Friday March 13th (10.30-12.30pm). Working with Evergreen and Outrageous you can build your own mini bouquet and there’ll be a craft station where children can decorate cupcakes and create cards. The event is hosted by KindHaus and admission is free, though they’d love you to make a donation to Hackney Children and Baby Bank.
Jewellery

Jeweller Louise Wade used to work for Vivienne Westwood and now has her own store on Albion Parade. She said: “I believe jewellery should feel instinctive — like it already belongs to you before you've even put it on.”
We love these Brooks Threaders earrings – they’re minimal yet sculptural and they look cool! Prices start from £50. Louise has plenty of other options, including beautiful necklaces, rings and bracelets.

Metal Crumble on Stoke Newington Church Street also has beautiful handmade jewellery, much of it crafted in store by jeweller Roger Taylor, who has been running the business for more than 30 years.
Homewares

We love these ceramic bowls from Rouge. Made in Japan, for homeware brand Sopha Diffusion, each is hand-painted with patterns of interlacing foliage and flowers. Perfect for nibbles, dips and snacks. £29.50.

Sisters Laura and Emily Smith produce beautiful handblown glass tableware and lighting. This Flux tumbler and jug set embedded with copper leaf caught our eye. Based out of a studio in Stoke Newington, their brand is Molten 1090.

If she’s into cooking, how about special knife from Kitchen Provisions. They’re selected for their craftsmanship and performance and they look good too.

Pamper gifts

We love these fragrances by Cra-yon at Search and Rescue. Vegan, cruelty free and beautifully balanced. Head to Church Street and get spritzing!
Arawan Thai Message and Spa on the High St is offering a Thai Oil Massage - blending traditional Thai massage techniques (palms, thumbs, elbows and even knees) with soothing aromatic oils. Or treat them to a personalised facial at Beautify N16 or a voucher so they can decide.
Book recommendation

The fabulous Emma at Stoke Newington Bookshop says Nicola Dinan’s Disappoint Me is one of her favourite books of the past year. It’s a sharp, sensitive Hackney-bound novel about a reformed party girl making tentative steps into a more sober, adult world of romance. Check it out or pop in store for more of their recommendations.
Cards and Gifts

Pop in to Earlybird for candles, mugs and cards. Their soy candles in ceramic pots look beautiful and scents include lemon, tomato and basil or pomelo, pink pepper and patchouli. £25.
Know and Love also has a brilliant selection of goodies – check out their Stokey Mum keyrings and t-towels.
If you're looking for something to hang on the wall, check out Rude Studios at Everyday Sunshine on Nevill Road.

Ark on the High Street is bursting with gifts, from stylish water bottles to novelty socks! Or Nook are selling scented soy candles by Octo, with a burn time of around 40 hours. Their Restore candle is scented with bergamot, mint and rosemary.
Eyes of Stokey are offering a free gift set with every new pair of glasses purchased for Mother’s Day and Askew is offering 20% off sunglasses this weekend.

For the mum in your life who’s always on the go, Prep have a great range of travel cups. We like this glass one, which is lockable, leek proof and dishwasher safe. £20.

What Mother Made on Church St have a range gifts and cards just for Mother’s Day. They include these Soul Mama Bath Salts, with pink Himalayan salt crystals, Epsom salt and hibiscus - described as: “deeply grounding and detoxifying.” £26.
Flowers

Evergreen and Outrageous florist has pretty hand-tied bouquets, a brilliant range of indoor plants and pots and Emma Bridgewater pottery. Order ahead for local delivery.
Stokey Garden Florist also offers a brilliant range of bouquets as well as planted baskets.
Sweet treats

Where better to shop this Mother’s Day than a bakery dedicated to helping women fleeing domestic violence and exploitation. Luminary Bakery has a range of delicious cakes – we love their Chocolate and Mixed Berry cake (£55) and they offer mini cakes too.
Clothing and Accessories

Ivory on the High St or Hilda on Church St have really beautiful womenswear. Array also has a great selection – this tote bag by Kate Sheridan caught our eye. £178.
If you’re looking for something tailor-made and high-end, Sonia Taohid has launched a beautiful range of Spring linen.
Eating Out

You’re spoilt for choice for places to eat out in Stokey.
The Three Crowns, Clarence and Londesborough pubs are all serving Mother’s Day roasts. Or Italian restaurants Primavera and La Rosetta offer a warm family welcome and great food. The Acoustic brasserie, Good Egg or Aun Japaneseare all special options too!
