Colourful kites will be making their way around Stoke Newington as the annual Spring Trail gets underway.

Families are encouraged to pick up a kite and a trail map from Earlybird, Rouge, Prep, Everyday Sunshine, The Ark or Know & Love and enjoy a mosey around the neighbourhood, collecting unique stickers along the way to decorate them with. There are some fabulous prizes up for grabs too.

The event, run by Stoke Newington Business Association (SNBA) starts on Saturday March 28th and runs throughout the school holidays. Participants are encouraged to take a photo with their completed kite (decorated with all 20 stickers) or a short video (10 seconds max) for a chance to win a seasonal hamper. There will be runner-up prizes of vouchers at local shops too. Participants can also drop off donations of non-perishable food for Hackney Foodbank with businesses on the trail map.

Lei Yang, Co-Chair of the SNBA, said: “Our Spring Trail is such a special way to get out and about in the community, to connect with local business owners and to keep the children occupied!  Stokey’s small shops and cafes give the area much of its character and they’re so much a part of community life. We’ve helped to collect more than five tonnes of food for Hackney Foodbank in recent years, and we’d love participants in the trail to bring along donations too.

“We chose kites for this year’s trail because they symbolise freedom, joy and hope.”

As part of the project, Output Arts (an interactive art collective) ran kite-making workshops with local primary schools, including Holmleigh and William Patten. Kites made by local schoolchildren will be on display in the windows of shops on the trail.
