Pick up a map and dust off your walking shoes – an international design festival is coming to Stoke Newington this September.
Among those exhibiting at the London Design Festival (September 14th-22nd) are glass blowers Molten 1090, vibrant landscape artist Nicholas Borden, ceramicist Brigit Connolly and multidisciplinary artist David Batchelor.
It’s the second year of the Dalston to Stokey Design District – last year the streets were buzzing with people.
Among the Stoke Newington events are:
Rude and Everyday Sunshine is hosting local art by landscape painter Nicholas Borden.
Know & Love is hosting a ceramics exhibition by Sunnyside Rural Trust (in partnership with Henny Beaumont and Brigit Connolly.
Praxis N16 Studios is running the Protest by Design exhibition featuring workshops, street art talks and film screenings.
Wander is showcasing the work of London potters.
Wax Atelier has a series of installations exploring the potential of tree-derived materials.
The Chocolate Factory, N16 will have an open-studios on September 14th and 15th with drop-in workshops such as screen-printing with Helen Rawlinson and ceramics and drawing with Joely Clinkard and Elizabeth Jackson.
Flawk’s exhibition The Object Pantry showcases playful, refined home objects by emerging local makers. They’ll also be hosting a couple of supper clubs, including a reimagined Sunday Roast.
Objets Mito will feature an exhibition of sculptures by Abid Javed, including a handmade ceramic chair.
Heidi Early, Chair of Stoke Newington Business Association, said: “Abi Meats at Everyday Sunshine and Karen Sims at Know and Love have done a tremendous job of bringing this amazing event together.
“Stoke Newington has such a brilliant community of creatives and this event really helps secure our well-deserved place on the London art scene.”
